# Operator by Småverk > AI camera operator in the page at https://operator.smaverk.com. Point a device at people and pick what it films: a close-up of each face in turn, the one person you tap, or whoever is talking. It runs on the device; the camera picture and the faces in it are not sent anywhere. Free, with no account and no key; each page links one optional support payment (`#support`, any amount, through Polar) that unlocks nothing. Operator is one of the tools by Småverk; https://smaverk.com lists them all. ## What it does - Everyone (each face): it opens wide, films a close-up of each face in turn, then the whole group, and keeps a still of each face. Someone who arrives later gets their own close-up. It films a person again only if they turn or come closer, or you tap them. - Follow (one person): tap a person and it keeps them framed as they move, says when it has lost them, and finds them again. - Talking (who speaks): it films the whole group while you record, then cuts the video to whoever is talking. - The camera fills the screen with the controls on the picture: turn off, light, shape, zoom (0.5×, 1×, 2× where the device has the lenses), switch camera, how long each close-up lasts, and Record (hold to stop). - The shape follows how you hold the device: upright films 9:16, sideways 16:9. The shape button sets it by hand. - The camera turns off when you leave the page and comes back when you return. - At the end: the video (MP4), a still of each face, and the wide recording, saved on the device. ## Privacy To avoid filming the same person twice, it tells the faces in one recording apart with numbers made inside the page. Those numbers are held in memory for that recording only, are not saved or sent, and are dropped when the recording stops. The people filmed should know they are being filmed. Details: https://smaverk.com/privacy The light/dark button (`#theme`) keeps the choice in a `smaverk-theme` cookie for `.smaverk.com` (and in `localStorage`), so it carries across the studio and every tool. It holds nothing else. ## Limits - Best with two to six people facing the camera. - A device that cannot zoom from a web page gets crops rather than a closer lens. - It can miss someone or cut to the wrong person; watch the result before sharing it.
